MS SHERMAINE HENG

Teacher, Choreographer

I believe that the journey of learning is not just about discipline and technical excellence, but also creativity – nurtured through openness, discovery and courage. It is an honour to work with students of such a high calibre and I hope to instil in them, the fearlessness and humility of a growing artist.

Born in Singapore, Shermaine is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, Australia. She was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance Creation (Choreography), followed by a Master of Dance, which she completed with First Class Honours in 2016. Shermaine also holds a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Political Science and Mass Communications from the University of Melbourne.

In 2014, Shermaine was a recipient of the Victorian Government Scholarship for Dance. She was also a recipient of the 2015 Regional Training Engagement Fund, through the support of Creative Victoria in partnership with Regional Arts Victoria. Her works have since been featured across multiple platforms such as The Courier, ABC News and The Ballarat Miner. She also studied intensively under notable artists such as Helen Herbertson (VCA), Anouk van Dijk (Chunky Move OBOC 2015), Sandra Parker (Sandra Parker Dance) and Rosalind Crisp (Omeo Dance).

Shermaine also teaches barre, mat and reformer pilates with a keen interest in dance body conditioning and injury management as part of her movement practice.
